Thora Birch

Thora Birch, born March 11 1982 is an American actress. In 1988 she made her feature debut in a film with Purple People Eater. For this role, she was awarded an Young Artist Award as "Best Young Actress Under nine years of age". Birch was a child star who appeared in movies such as All I Want For Christmas (1991), the Patriot Games(1992), Hocus Pocus (1993), Monkey Trouble (94), Now and Then (1995) and Alaska (1996). The actress was awarded a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress under Nine Years Old." In 1999, Birch played Jane Burnham in American Beauty. This film earned her an BAFTA nomination. In the following year, she played in Ghost World (2001) as Enid. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Birch was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in Homeless to Harvard The Liz Murray Story in 2003. Her other films include Dungeons & Dragons (2000), The Hole (2001), Silver City (2004), Dark Corners (2006), Winter of Frozen Dreams (2009), and Petunia (2012).After having an absence from acting, Birch resumed her career in 2016 and has since been in several independent films. Birch was also a part of Whisperer Mary or Gamma on Season 10 of The Walking Dead (2019-2020). Birch was born in Los Angeles, the eldest child of Jack Birch and Carol Connors. Birch was born in Los Angeles, and her family's ancestral surname was Biersch, is of German-Jewish, Scandinavian, French-Canadian and Italian heritage.  Her name, "Thora," is the name that comes from Thora, the Norse god thunder and lightning ("Thor"), which would be her name had she were a young boy. She has a younger brother, Kian Bolt Birch.Birch's parents were both former film actors who both played in the movie Deep Throat. They were reluctant to help Thora due to their past experience working in the entertainment industry. However, an infantsitter saw Thora imitating commercials and encouraged them to show her picture to agents. Birch had her first big break at four, when the babysitter accompanied her to an audition for a Quaker Oats commercial.

Markie Post grew-up in Walnut Creek. She began her professional career as a television and film producer, notably "The New Card Sharks", (1978) as well as "Card Sharks" (1986).
